Easter Competition winner- Victoria Brown

Rob was totally astounded by the quality of all the competition entrants. The standard of the articles written were all of a very high calibre and Rob would like to congratulate all who entered. All of the students who entered will receive a high quality certificate and a karate dvd box set to help you with your training.

Choosing the winner was very hard so Rob thought it only fair that they should all be placed on the newsletter for everyone to read. The winner, Victoria Brown, received a certificate and two tickets to the 2007 KUGB National Championships. Well-done to you all.
The article written by Victoria Brown is as follows:

Friendships via Karate

Hiya! This is my entry to the Easter competition called Friendships via Karate:

Everyone knows that Karate is a sport and a way to learn self-defence. It is a way for you to feel safer on the streets. But once I joined, I realised it was something more.
It was a way to socialise.

All students help each other with Kata and Kumite etc. We help each other achieve our next Kyu or even Dan grades. Before sessions we run around, chat and basically, have a laugh!

Through this, one lonely girl felt happier than she has been in Months. Now, it’s hard for her to decide whether to go to Karate or to a party!!!

So, I’d like to say thanks to everyone for making this lonely girl happy.

What do you think?

Victoria Brown (7th Kyu – Yellow Belt)

The following articles were also entered and should be commended on an excellent effort:

I love my training because it has helped me to be fit and helped with my asthma. When I first started karate I was the one crying in class because I couldn’t turn properly. But I kept coming to training and now I love it. I try to train as many times a week as I can. When I graded for my Orange belt I felt nervous but when I graded for my red belt I was on form! I knew what to do and really enjoyed it……… By Ilanae Cain, aged 8, 7th Kyu

I started my Karate over 3 Years ago and have decided that I am going to try my hardest in every Karate session, competition and grading to fulfil my mission to become a Black belt. Karate has helped me socialise, meet new friends and has strengthened my body, soul and mind and has kept me healthy and fit. I believe that anyone can learn Karate and get the same benefits as me…….. By Cameron Michael Rhodes, 1st Kyu

I started Karate about four or five Years ago and I have decided that I am going to reach my goal to my Black belt, which I am going for on the 3rd of June 2007 at Kendal. I’m very nervous but I think I am going to get it. Through the last few Years I have become more co-ordinated, confident and patient which you have to have and I owe it all to Rob and Sharon. Karate is made for self-defence and it makes your body and soul stronger and keeps you fit and healthy like it has done for me…… By Bethany Gilvarry, 1st Kyu

I started Karate when I was eight years old because I wanted to achieve something. I could do this by getting my Black belt so I joined a club at Rothwell where my friend Aron trained. I recently passed my 1st Dan exam (Black belt grading) and it was difficult but I made it through by being confident during my sequences, aggressive during Kumite and confident during my Kata. Lastly I would like to thank Rob, Sharon and John for teaching me the art of Karate……… By Adam Smith, 1st Dan
